About Us

Who we are and what we do

The Society runs a number of meetings each year sometimes jointly with other medical scientific societies and every three or four years runs a major international conference.

The income to the Society comes from the following sources: subscriptions from its 800+ international and national members, income from meetings (principally the international meeting), surplus from the Journal of Hospital Infection and charitable donations received from industry and grant giving bodies.

The Diploma in Infection control (DipHIC) is jointly run by the Society, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Health Protection Agency.

The Society awards a major research grant and a number of small research grants annually as well as travel grants, primarily to allow trainees to attend conferences.

Our aim with this website is to provide information to those interested in hospital acquired infections, to inform people of the Society's activities and possibly to provide a forum for the interchange of views. We will aim to provide links to other relevant sites as well as making available reports and guidelines from the working parties funded and supported by the Society. Information and application forms for scientific grants and membership will be available on line.

The Society is a registered charity (number 286064).
